About Our Office
About Village Hearing Care
Village Hearing Care was established in Gorham, Maine in 2008. We've been providing quality, personal hearing care to the people of Greater Portland and beyond for 18 years.
Why haven't you heard of us? We're not as well-known as some of the big chains, but we like it that way! You won't find big, loud advertisements coming from us. We've managed to stay very busy over the years without all the fuss.
Meet the Provider
Shannon Dowdle is a licensed, certified audiologist who has a Bachelor of Arts from Amherst College, a Master of Science in Communication Disorders and Sciences (Audiology) from California State University, Northridge, with additional MBA courses at Boston University and the University of Southern Maine.
Before establishing Village Hearing Care, Shannon trained at House Ear Institute in Los Angeles and the Veterans Affairs Clinic in Santa Barbara, and worked in otolaryngology (ENT) offices in Greater Philadelphia and Portland, Maine.
Prior to becoming an audiologist in 2000, Shannon worked in computer support, insurance and banking.
She is a native of Gorham, Maine.
Insurance coverage?
Figuring out your hearing aid benefits isn't always easy, and we've found that many patients are given incorrect information when they call their insurance companies.
As a result, we highly recommend that you call us directly to see if we participate with your plan.
Village Hearing Care accepts many major insurances for hearing aid coverage. These include (but are not limited to):
Aetna, Anthem, Blue Cross, Harvard Pilgrim, Humana, Martin's Point
And just when you thought you had everything figured out, some insurance plans require you go through a third-party hearing aid benefits administration company (TPA) to access your benefits. Among those we currently participate with are:
Amplifon, TruHearing, Nations Hearing
If you call one of these companies directly and they try to set you up with a different provider, feel free to request us, or again, call us directly and we can take care of everything from our side.
